Prologue: Indira Awaas Yojana (IAY),a flagship program of the Ministry of Rural Development has through initiation been providing relief to BPL families who are either house lesser having insufficient housing facilities for building a safe and durable shelter. This Offer has been part of a big strategy of the Ministry’s poverty abolition effort, supporting the growth of an environmentally sound habitat with adequate regulations for incremental expansion and development.

Public housing program in the country began with the resettlement of dependent instantly after independence. Till 1960, about 5 lakh families were supplied houses in several parts of northern India.
Target group (Qualified Beneficiaries)
Indira Awaas Yojana is factually a public housing project for the houseless BPL families and those living in chronic and kutcha houses with a component for giving house sites to the landless poor as well. The Project is composed to empower Below Poverty Line (BPL) households identified by the community via Gram Sabhas following measurement suggested for such identification from time to time, to make their houses or gain house sites with financial and technical support from the Government.
Period for construction
Normally, subject to weather and other factors, the phases of building should be moved within the following timelines

i. The selected beneficiaries should be released first instalments through the ordersheets generated from the MIS.
ii. All transactions by the disbursing agency should be consolidated and verified at the next higher level and authenticated.
The disbursing agencies should also identify two signatories for the digital signatures that would be issued in order to approve electronic generation of Fund Transfer Orders and transfer of funds to beneficiary accounts.
